"The Baker Happier Hunting Grounds Deluxe Rocketship"
Commissioned in 2007, and completed in 2008, this fantastic sculpture was a dream of my good friend and patron Dr. Bob Baker of Saulte Ste. Marie, Mich. Bob has been a rocketship aficionado for 8 years collecting many pieces including my self portrait Cyclops series. In the summer of 2005 he was diagnosed with ALS - Lou Gehrig’s DIsease. This horrible debilitating disease has no cure and the patient can live between 2 and 20 years with a working mind but ever decreasing motor skills. The main body of the piece was an old brass Morse code signal lamp off a Navy ship that Bob had shipped to me in late 2007. The base is a beauty shop chair stand, the front an old lamp and beehive hair dryer, the rear an office chair base, fan, and parts. The crowning mascot an old Pontiac chief hood ornament, 1939 or '40. Thus the happier hunting grounds theme. Long life, much love of life, and resurgence of the best of youth and strength in the after life. 5.5' h x 8' l x 3' w , 400 lb.
